Diamondbacks right-hander Clay Buchholz progressing toward return

Diamondbacks right-hander Clay Buchholz will not be traveling with the club on its upcoming six-day road trip, but he could be progressing toward a potential return after the All-Star break.

Buchholz suffered a strained oblique in a June 24 start in Pittsburgh and threw his first bullpen session on Saturday at Chase Field. Buchholz said he threw 55 pitches and felt great Sunday morning.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Buchholz will undergo another bullpen session on Tuesday and could embark on a rehab stint after that. A simulated game is also a possibility after Buchholz’s second bullpen session.
